Voting As a Fundamental Right

Is any party able to achieve single majority in the elections on way? Or is it Coalition Government all the way still? Is it not time to vote for a single party to power whichever party it may be? Let's all vote in the elections on hand!Voting is a right and have the right to use it. Can't we ever change politics? We need to try and try.

Electing the Right Leader!

Now that S.M. Krishna is back who do you think will have a major impact in Karnataka, will it be S.M. Krishna or Mayawati? Can Mayawati make some impact in the state?

"One and One Equals to One"-Indians

SC tells Raj Thackeray to shut up!’ A Newspaper report which runs in Bangalore Mirror, dt. 15th March, 08. This is a wise decision taken by the Supreme Court & did point out that Balkanisation of India should be controlled with an iron hand. India quite rightly cannot be divided on the basis of caste, creed & colour! We are ‘One’ and we will remain as one- Indians!

No Check!

Bangalore Mirror yet gives another report on ‘Stale Products’ dt. March, 15th ,08. This is not new as stale products are available in provision stores, shops & in bakeries too as the Health Inspectors do work with their eyes closed! It is a rare sight to watch the worms meaning live-worms feeding on these products as well as in fruits!

Good Cause

We must learn that teachers give as punishments so that we can be good citizens of our country in the future. Light punishments like going to the Detention Centre for an hour for late comers, standing outside the class for not doing homework, kneeling down on the floor, light canning are acceptable but not more than these. Having passed through these phases too where I had too received light canning, but I also did receive a lot of love and care from my teachers as they did gave me a lot of additional responsibilities like making me the Class Leader of Std.1 in St. Francis’ College cum School, Lucknow, for selecting me to play Sports for the same prestigious institution in Std. 6th as House Captain and while doing my Xth Std. in a school in Bangalore I was also made an Incharge of an Ice Cream Stall during an exhibition.

Attitude

In the ‘Times of India Newspaper’, March13th , 08, the headline reads “Girl dies while writing exam.” Is this not the callous attitude of the school authorities? Whenever an important exam is conducted is it not the duty of the school authorities and others to look into the welfare of the students concerned? Whenever I/we used to attend an important exam whether it is the 10th or the 12th Std., there usually would be a Doctor always at stand-by!

Power the Main Goal

Is it not true that Power & Money meaning Wealth corrupts all? When our hockey team the National Sport infact has failed to qualify for the Olympics, the Indian Hockey President KPS Gill still wants to stick to power! How long will Power & Wealth be the main deciding factors in fetching us results?Where are we heading to? We do want Results and not Excuses! The sport needs to be back and the Indian people are an impatient lot, they do want the hockey team to win gold in the Olympics held later! No Excuses More!

Snatch Them

As I have been a sports player during my school days and was chosen as House Captain to represent the House as our School cum College was divided into four Houses.I know that I had not done enough justice in this field as we were transferred from Lucknow to Bangalore. In Bangalore also I did not snatch at every opportunity given as I didn't stand in the Student Union Elections of the College which I regret often!
Therefore please snatch all the opportunities that may come your way. Seek and you shall receive but keep your eyes wide open!

Gala over Cricket

Is it not a shame that our National Game 'Hockey' as lost to qualify in the Olympics? It is good to see that the coach has taken moral responsibility to accept the defeat & resign, but others do need power, they would stick to it and that too without owning moral responsibility! In a vast country like India, there is a lot of talent available but are the concerned authorities providing them with the proper facilities? Infact we go ga-ga all over cricket but do we give importance to other sports like soccer or ice sking? Recently in a magazine there was an article on Ice sking where there is a lot of talent available but without proper facilities.I too have been a sports player during my school days and was chosen as House Captain to represent the House as our School cum College was divided into four Houses!

Personality or Beauty

Is a person judged by his/her beauty, or his/her inner beauty of honesty, truthfulness and sincereness or by his/her good personality?

Inspiration for the youth

The quality of singing and a great deal of humbleness goes a great deal in becoming successful and this is what Vani Jayram has proved from time and again despite being in the danger round for three times of Asianet Idea Star Singer! Failures are indeed part and parcel of life whether they are in academics, relationships or in any other fields.

Are the youths not inspired by the performance of Vani Jayram? Who doesn’t like to be ‘one like Vani Jayram?’ Vani Jayram is a child who gives 95% in whatever she does whether it is in singing, medical field, drawing or acting and the rest 5% in whatever way she wants to enjoy her life she is free to do so!

The youths of today instead of whiling away time and playing pranks on others, they should be inspired to be “One like Vani Jayram.”, and they should work towards it!

Who would not like to be with her not for one day but forever?

Wishing her all the best for her future endeavours.

HELMET- THE RIDERS' CONCERN

Copyright Protected

Prakasha, admitted unconscious at NIMHANS with a head injury was pronounced dead a few days hence. He was well built, in his thirties, employed with the Govt. and liked by his colleagues. The helmet-rule was very much in force, the streets looked as if waves of commandos were on urgent missions. The traffic was thin, being the early hours of the day when Prakasha on his moped drew up at a wayside petrol pump, hung up his helmet on the handle bar, collected fuel and moved on. The moped tripped over the speed braker nearby, he fell headlong and that was the last his relation with the helmet that lay still fixed on to the bar. Somebody called it a freak accident, some others fate and yet others pondered 'Had he worn the helmet!'
Having made up his mind to dwell over the helmet-rule, the writer walked about for an hour on the main roads and the streets of a well laid-out part of the city to have a close look at the two-wheeler attributes. The pedestrians and other road users are taken for a ride. The first law that the speed of the vehicle must be controlled by its own condition, the condition of the road and the nature of traffic like the buses, trucks, cars, cattle and dogs, and pedestrians across is thrown to the wind. A good many of the two-wheelers ride zig-zag, do not keep to their own side of the roads at the junctions, some immediately cut from right to left or otherwise and also most of them try overtaking from the left. And, what distress that damsel is in to fly past so low, ground hugging with her dupatta fluttering in style and get caught in the wheel of a vehicle? It is almost by a whisker that others escape from rash riders. Hardly a few riders wear helmets. The pedestrians need helmets more, the way the two-wheelers navigate the streets. These observations are not meant an affront to the law-abiding, cautious many, older riders. Every invention, old or new is fraught with dangers, both to the owners and the public. Rules, regulations and conventions are set forth from experience of the use of these inventions to minimise, if not altogether avoid the possible dangers. Powered two-wheeler in general is an unstable rolling device which owes its temporal stability to speed within limits. Accidents happen because somebody in the complicated system of traffic does not go by the rulebook, need not necessarily be the rider. The rider must remember that he is the most vulnerable in the traffic system primarily because he rides on an unstable equilibrium. Pedestrians, quite a number of them illiterate and poor in a country like ours do not appreciate why they should abide by any rule of the road at all. More people are here on the road at any point of time compared to the advanced countries.
Accessibility by roads being generally poor in our country, more and more people throng to the available roadside to make a living. Road users are varied from cattle to modern high-speed limousines. Potholes, humps and channels (cut across the road) are constant sources of dangers for one and all. Unscientifically designed speed breakers (a host of them until recently on Bangalore streets) could easily off-balance a scooterist. Poorly lit roads at night and high beams of the on-coming traffic are irritants. Drunken driving and talking over the cellphone while in motion are other causes of accidents. Traffic signals are inadequate in numbers and in quality. Two-wheelers are seldom equipped with direction indicators to make known the rider's intentions to others. If all these drawbacks are taken care of, accidents can be reduced to a great extent.
Even in a scenario of minimum accidents taking place, the intensity of the suffering of the victims must be reduced. Head injury and consequent death or permanent disability is the worst that could happen to two-wheeler riders. Many scientific papers and statistical data have emerged from the work with NIMHANS that wearing helmets would lessen the intensity of brain damage. Overwhelming evidence and commonsense dictate the advisability of a hard protective cover over the head to save from possible brain damage in accidents. (Look, your favourite cricketer wears it too as it saves them from bouncers thrown at them).
Some people argue that the poor quality of helmet itself can cause brain injury in case of a fall or collision. True, but, the country is sufficiently advanced in material sciences and manufacturing technology to make safe helmets. Earthquakes do not kill people, but the buildings they live in do. People do not cease to live in houses on that count. Likewise, the use of helmets.

Wearing helmet is cumbersome, uncomfortable and uneasy for some. That is a valid point. Comfort and feel-good factor are essential to safe and relaxed riding. If the helmet is forced on their head they may have no alternative to abandoning the vehicle, once for all.

A mobike is a poor man's transport. Adding another thousand rupees compulsorily by way of a quality helmet to the galloping cost of the vehicle and its insurance cover is unfair to the consumers. Judging from the enormous number of two-wheelers on the street, a compulsory helmet-rule evidently favours the helmet industry. Should the Government promote such undue trade practices to help the producers squeeze out more money from the consumers? The law should at least look fair and even, and not again
another avenue for corruption.
Let the industry and the Government educate the rider on the benefit of wearing the helmet. Let the demand be controlled by the market forces and not by forcible intervention by the Government with other over-riding considerations.
If you want your life to be saved it is better to wear the helmet while riding a two-wheeler as there are the dare devils on the run and your life is most valuable! The traffic personnel need to impose heavy fines for the riders of two wheelers who do not wear helmets. Helmets are not a fashion to be worn by the motorcycles either on the handle bar or behind as to protect the number plates of the two wheelers as not to be noticeable by the traffic personnel. This is done on due purpose!

Long hours

Power problem has been experienced in several areas in Bangalore. The most affected areas are near St.John’s Road, Jeevan Bima Nagar and utmost 36 hour power cut in Ramamurthy Nagar including Anandanagar in Hebbal, around Commercial Street ,frequently on St.John's Road near Lavayana theatre near Ulsoor lake & Thippasandra as this does affect most of the people as their work gets postponed. Can metro rail run?

India

India at 60:77% earns less than Rs.20 daily shows that India as a whole consists of Two worlds, one which belongs to the millionaires and other to the poor. These days the youth is not satisfied and in order to be utmost satisfied they go in for the search of new and modern gadgets, new automobiles like new bikes & new cars or go to the club, purchase drinks and have fun with most of the young girls.

The youth show understand this not the way to derive satisfaction, satisfaction comes about by serving other people, by doing good for them, by teaching and caring for the unfortunate and also looking after the old & elderly people and they should be satisfied with what they have and not what others have!

Visibility Poorer

Where did the orange clothing go to which the traffic policemen used to wear during the night? As the city is covered with pollution from vehicles and construction of buildings there has been less visibility in the city! The traffic policemen are putting themselves at risk and also the other vehicle riders/drivers.

Jewel

A Girl Child is a Jewel Indeed!

Are we doing anything for the girl child of today?

Though there are the examples of Vani Jayram in Idea Star Singer & many others including the talented Bharatnatyam Dancer Saijana the question is are we doing anything for the girl child of today? The girl child needs to have equal rights over property matters, in almost every Wedding card and during any marriage celebration the male's name is preferred first over the female's, it's funny that they have no right over the pyre and this needs to be changed and they cannot become a priest. The attitude of people needs to be changed as sooner as possible & they need to have a border view.A girl child is a jewel indeed!

seek the truth

Media

Is the media doing anything or sitting idly? Is the media fighting for justice for protecting the citizens of the country? If so why is Pratibha’s murder case taking such a long time? Rather than going after the Under-19 Cricketers and the Indian Cricket Team, is it not the duty of the media to seek justice first in the Pratibha’s murder case and punish the culprits? Is the media sheltering the rich and the wealthy people? They indeed need to learn a lesson from the media of the West that they did not even spare President Bill Clinton in the Monica-Lewinsky case!
